Karen Willis, Mh.D.

Karen is a Doctor of Holistic Healing and Counseling, and Metaphysics from Delphi University, is also an Ordained Minister in the Church of Wisdom. Currently, she is working on her Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology, with an emphasis on RoHun Therapy, at Delphi University. She has lived in the Atlanta area for the past 30 years, and has extensive training in the healing arts. Her mission is to assist people on their journey toward greater health, higher consciousness, and a deeper connection to Spirit. In her therapeutic and teaching processes, she opens you to your life choices, and helps to release emotional and mental blocks that obstruct the flow of your fullest potential.
Karen has a rich and diverse background in metaphysics, comparative religions and spiritualities, and esoteric healing modalities. She is a member of CAMA (Complimentary Alternative Medical Association), a member of the International Registry of Spiritual Healers, and a member of the National Sound Healer's Association. She was an honor student in Psychology at Georgia State University, and a former Power Engineer with Lucent Technologies. She is also the publisher and founder of Aurora Rising Magazine, a national publication for spiritual growth, human potential, creativity, and the arts, based here in Atlanta. Aurora's
History
The Aurora Center was conceived of between 1989 and 1990, while I was a psychology student at Georgia State University in Atlanta. I was nearing graduation when the war in the Persian Gulf erupted. I was deeply offended by the rhetoric around that war, and became active in non-violent demonstrations for peace. I felt that it was much too late in our history to have these things happen because we really did know better. I wanted to contribute to understanding and healing the parts of us that insist on war as a means of conflict resolution--an oxymoron to be sure--and so I started to actively seek solutions. I felt that the only solutions that would ever be plausible, were those that originated in the heart and spirit of humanity. But, I also knew that the seeds of rage grow strangling vines in the individual human heart.
I began yet another of my inner journeys to find answers. I reconnected with my love of metaphysics and with my spirituality, and continued my spiritual training. I meditated, prayed, wrote poetry, painted, drew pictures--anything that was a cord to the spirit. From time to time, I would meditate and have visions that would take me to a state of bliss and peace. My heart would open, and my world would fill with joy and hope. The picture of the sunrise you see above these words emerged over and over in my mind's eye. And the name Aurora began to accompany the vision. Aurora: goddess of the dawn, the goddess of the new day excellent and fair in which all wounds heal, all suffering is soothed, and all injustices set right. That is a good dawn to awaken to.
I decided to publish a magazine dedicated to that new world, a magazine that would be a forum for new thought and that would help us as human beings in the search for peace, goodness, healing, and truth. The objective of this magazine would then be to lay the foundations for a healing and visionary arts center. I spent the next 7 years (1990 to 1997) publishing Aurora Rising Magazine. Publishing, however, left little time for a healing center or for any training in the alternative healing field. Also, I put the ideas on the backburner while I went full-force into my engineering job at Lucent Technologies. I am happy to say that I was laid-off in the middle part of 2003. It freed me to pursue my dreams of love, joy, peace, hope, creativity and healing for myself and the world.
After a 10 year hiatus from publishing, I am planning to re-establish Aurora Magazine, only this time as an online e-zine. I still believe the Internet is the future of publishing, and that print is on its way out. As for the Aurora Center, it is now a reality. Aurora is a place of beauty, peace, and healing and it is my honor to share it with my brothers and sisters.
